I consider myself a fairly healthy person and so I’m always on the lookout for fresh new foods to add to my diet. I was excited to discover a new variety of Potato that’s low GI. These little wonders are called “Carisma” (probably because they make you happy to eat them!). We all love potatoes but I often find I steer clear of them due to high levels of carbs and their high GI status. Now I can enjoy them once again and share them with the whole family (even my much-loved dad who suffers from diabetes). What good news for a Friday!

We seem to be hearing a lot lately about the increasing variety of fresh food that is being imported from countries such as Thailand, China, and the US. The Queensland and Victorian floods have placed this issue in the media even more with industry representatives urging us to continue purchasing Aussie made produce, even if it is inferior in appearance.

Intrigued by recent articles regarding the importation issues, I did some further research and was shocked and discussed with the amount of food being brought in from other countries. Whats wrong with our own produce?

Australians have some of the best farming practises in the world and our regulations on food health and safety ensure our consumers are given safe, quality, fresh produce to take home to their families.

At Riverina Grove our motto is “Fresh from the Riverina”, our customers relate to this and can straight away identify our products as Australian grown and produced. It concerns me to think that people are serving their families food that was grown in a manner we have little knowledge about, was harvested and then transported for an unspecified period of time before it sat on a supermarket shelf, and finally found its way into your trolley and onto your dinner table. Even if these products were a little cheaper than our Aussie grown produce can you really put a price on the safety of your family?

At the end of the day what’s that $1.99 per kilo fruit really costing? Your family’s health? Your job security? The Australian agricultural industries sustainability? The prosperity of the Australian economy? Our way of life as we know it now?

Please think twice next time you’re tempted to buy offshore, if not for us, or for you, but for your family.

Needless to say this is one of our products I won’t be having for morning tea!

Well its my first day back in the office after a fantastic trip to the Gold Coast. I personally have always thought of Melbourne as the Food and Wine Capital of Australia but I have to say I was extremely impressed with the Gold Coast.

After looking at Gourmet foods all day here at work it was great to actually play tourist and taste some. We took a day trip to Mt Tambourine where we visited an organic coffee farm and tasted some of the best espresso ever. We visited the Mt Tambourine brewery and enjoyed a tasting tray of 4 of their exclusive beers brewed right in front of you. There was the cheese factory that had almost every cheese imaginable, if I didn’t have to fly back I would have bought some back to have with our RG Tapanade and Aurelio Olives…. My personal favourite was the fudge factory, do I even need to say anything else?

We had the best seafood platter at Koi in Broadbeach and some fantastic pasta at Uno (it was a close rival to the pasta sauce we make here).

I was a little concerned about what it would be like in QLD following the floods but It was every bit as enjoyable as when we visited there 2 years ago, plus its a great way to help the flood appeal by sinking some tourist dollars into the QLD economy. Now where should i go next…..

Tomorrow will be another exciting day for my tastebuds as we hold free samples of the new range of Milawa cheese we’re now stocking! mmmm If you’re in Griffith tomorrow come down and say hi and help me eat some of this cheese!

Ciao for now!
